Aye! THE BOYFRIEND LAUNCHER is officially outside! Aye! THE BOYFRIEND LAUNCHER is officially outside!!! (That means you can go get a copy.) I’m so excited for you all to meet Dru and Winston. It’s time for them to sparkle somewhere other than my imagination. I hope you love them as much as I do. More about The Boyfriend Launcher: When soccer star Dru Eason's longtime crush Kai finally asks her out, she can't say no. She also can't say yes. Not when she knows things with him will end just as they have with all of her exes. They'll date, break up, and in a matter of days he'll become someone else's perfect boyfriend. Because Dru is The Boyfriend Launcher. To buy time to figure out why this keeps happening, Dru negotiates a no-dating pact with her team for the duration of the playoffs—twenty-four days. Then she asks Winston Portis, one of her best friends, to secretly fake-date her. Maybe after some feedback on what it's like being her boyfriend, she can take her chance with Kai and keep him far away from the launchpad. But is twenty-four days enough time to uncover her issues? Or is it just long enough for Dru to wonder: Has she been overlooking the perfect boy, or is she just launching Winston for the next girl? And is she finally brave enough to take a shot at finding out? #TheBoyfriendLauncher
I love how Booklist thinks. 🙃 You might like The B I love how Booklist thinks. 🙃 You might like The Boyfriend Launcher too! It comes out February 24, but you can (and should) preorder it now. The link is in my bio. “You’ve met fake dating, you’ve met practice dating, but have you met troubleshooting dating? When tall, handsome, fellow soccer player Kai asks Dru out on a date, Dru panics and makes up a lie that buys her 28 days to figure out why she’s better at accidentally launching boyfriends into great relationships with other girls than keeping them. Dru’s best friend, Winston, agrees to role- play being her boyfriend so she can figure out what, exactly, she’s doing wrong. But as it turns out, Girlfriend Dru is perfect for Boyfriend Winston—and Dru is in for some serious introspection. Although primarily a romance, Dru’s story is just as much about how she fits in with her family and her soccer team as it is about her boyfriend woes, demonstrating an understanding of how complex dating is for teens. Dru’s relationships (romantic and otherwise) are realistically messy, but they are never allowed to remain toxic. Never fully conceding to a single well-traveled trope, this is an excellent selection for romance readers who want a fresh spin.” #TheBoyfriendLauncher #YAromance

Such a lovely review from School Library Journal! Such a lovely review from School Library Journal! 🥰💞😍 “High school junior Dru has relationship issues. A self-described “boyfriend launcher,” Dru hasn’t been able to keep a boyfriend for long, and every guy she’s broken up with has gone on to have a successful relationship. That’s why when Kai, her latest crush and fellow soccer superstar, asks her out, Dru demurs, making up a story that her team has sworn off dating until playoffs are over. After buying herself some time before the big date, Dru implores her best friend Winston for help. After some initial reluctance, Winston agrees to go through the motions of dating Dru to critique her girlfriend style. What follows is a classic fake-dating romance with plenty of heart. Long-standing tension with Dru’s high-achieving, much older sisters and warring factions within her soccer team heighten the drama. Dru’s character development is where the story shines. At the onset, Dru lacks self-confidence. She doesn’t see herself as leadership material, despite being cocaptain of the soccer team. She has trouble speaking her mind, preventing people from getting close to her. By the end, Dru is able to stand up to her domineering sister and have an honest, mature conversation with Kai. Winston sweetly supports her throughout. Although seasoned romance readers will see the ending coming, novices will enjoy Garrett’s (Promposal) cute, flirty tale of best friends whose relationship slowly evolves into something new. VERDICT A sweet introduction to the romance genre, ideal for readers who crave a happy ending.” -School Library Journal #TheBoyfriendLauncher #YAromance
